Tire and Pot Recycling
Purpose:
To prevent disease (from standing water in tires), and to recycle tires and nursery pots.
Description:
This is a partnership project with Island County Health Department aimed at the prevention of disease spread by mosquitoes which breed in water-filled tires. It is also a means for recycling tire materials for reuse.
Volunteers gather at the Coupeville Transfer Station to assist those who bring old tires for recycling. Two collection dates are scheduled each spring.
Volunteer Oppportunities:
Beach Watchers and Waste Wise volunteers staff this project. Plenty of workers are needed for heavy lifting, cashier, log keeping, and/or traffic directing.
