Testing Water Quality

Purpose:

Serve public health interests by taking water samples at public beaches during the summer.

Description:

Beach Watchers provides a service to Island County Health Department by taking water samples to determine the level of coliform bacteria present at three swimming beaches in Island County. Volunteers currently gather samples from Maxwelton, Freeland, and Oak Harbor beaches, and deliver them to the laboratory of the Skagit County Health Department twice monthly during the summer,

Volunteer Oppportunities:

Volunteers are needed to continue this project, by conducting tests, or driving water samples to Mount Vernon County Health Department. Training is offered at the beginning of the summer season.
