Schools Projects

Purpose

Organize and present appropriate environmental learning programs for children.

Description

Beach Watchers can volunteer at the South Whidbey Outside Classroom run by Whidbey Watershed Stewards to follow prepared lesson plans (new ones each year) for elementary and middle schools.

Each May on Camano Island, joining with Friends of Camano Island Parks, Beach Watchers welcome over 200 area second graders to the beach at Camano Island State Park and teach them about the beach, the invertebrates that live there, and proper beach behavior.

There is also a new program (currently in design stage) to (1) develop a grade-level-appropriate curriculum for scientific inquiry for grades K-6, (2) help with classroom and field experiences. For the first part, knowledge of teaching techniques and curriculum development w ould be very helpful.
