Central Puget Sound Marine Mammal Stranding Network

Purpose:

In conjunction with the Central Puget Sound Marine Mammal Stranding Network (CPSMMSN) : (1) to collect data on dead and stranded marine mammals for the National Marine Fisheries Service (NOAA/NMFS), (2) To provide public education and safety information to avoid adverse reactions between people and marine animals.

Description:

The purpose of CPSMMSN embraces the mission of Beach Watchers: Research, Education, and Stewardship. This group operates as an arm of National Marine Fisheries Service, in Island, Skagit, and north Snohomish Counties in cooperation with Orca Network, veterinarians, and wildlife biologists.

Volunteer Oppportunities:

Volunteers are needed for physical activities ranging from "baby sitting" seal pups on the beach, to collecting specimens, to rearticulating skeletons and participating in necropsies.
