This project accumulates baseline data-over-time on invertebrates, seaweeds, and beach conditions. This database is maintained and made available for research and environmental policy establishment purposes.

Training and field experience includes surveying and measuring changes in beach slope; and identification and recording numbers of species. Monitoring is done with the help of highly experienced Beach Watcher volunteers.

Monitoring enhances Beach Watchers' knowledge of marine life, particularly intertidal invertebrates and it is a lot of fun!

Volunteer Opportunities

Each beach location is measured once per year during spring or summer low tide periods.

All Beach Watchers are encouraged to participate in at least one beach monitoring event during the season, to put their training into practice.

If you are not yet a Beach Watcher, you are invited to observe and perhaps to help.
