Creosoted Log
Identification and Removal

Purpose

To find, quantify, and remove creosote debris on the beaches, in order to reduce degradation of the marine habitat.

Description

Survey and Removal In 2006: volunteers on both Camano and Whidbey walked MANY miles of beaches, identifying creosoted or treated wood, and recording GPS locations for subsequent removal by Washington Department of Natural Resources.

Volunteer Opportunities

Need volunteers who like to walk long distances over a variety of beach surfaces. In some cases, the emphasis is just on identification; in others it includes some lifting (of the smaller logs into piles) for subsequent removal.
