Beach Naturalists

Purpose

Foster an understanding of how to enjoy and at the same time preserve our fragile intertidal zones.

Description

Low Tide Days at Rosario: In partnership with Washington State Parks, Beach Watchers provide interpretive assistance to the public as they enjoy the history and marine beauty of Rosario Beach in Deception Pass State Park.

In 2006, Beach Watcher volunteers interacted with over 3500 visitors at Rosario Beach, helping them understand the abundance of life in the tide pools, and encouraging the kind of tide pool behavior that will foster reclamation of what has been an abused intertidal marine habitat.

Beach Naturalist Training: In conjunction with other counties, we provide training for beach naturalists so that they can work at Rosario or at other beaches.

Volunteer Opportunities

This is a great opportunity for those who like to be at a beautiful rocky beach interacting with the public and with school groups.
