Beach Litter and Marine Debris Removal

Purpose

Removal of beach litter, and marine debris, that pose a hazard to both marine and human life.

Description

Beach Watchers spend a number of hours on Island County beaches monitoring and researching, and many times find themselves cleaning up litter that has been left behind on the beach. This is especially important after the big storms, when beaches are inundated with flotsam and jetsam from the whole Puget Sound.

In addition there are specified occasions when Beach Watchers carry out planned beach clean-ups. Some training for this is necessary, as waste materials are potentially hazardous.
