Macoma nasuta (Bent nose clam)

The
bent nose clam may reach a length of about 3 inches. The
valves are white and may have bits of white or gray periostracum
present. Looking at the valves from the hinge side reveals
a distinct bend at the posterior end. The siphons of this
deposit feeder are orange when contracted but become white when
extended. As in other Macoma clams, the siphons are separate.
This clam can be found buried 4-6 inches deep in gravel,
sand, mud, or muddy clay. The bent nose clam may become prey
to moon snails.
