The Salish Sea
encompasses Puget Sound, the Straits of Georgia, and the Straits
of Juan de Fuca. Its waters are shared by British Columbia,
Canada & Washington State. The name honors the
Coastal Salish Peoples who historically inhabited this coastline.
The
vast majority of the invertebrates featured on these cards can
be found along the Pacific coast from Alaska to Monterey California,
and some as far south as Baja California in Mexico.
These
ID cards were originally developed for WSU Beach
Watcher intertidal monitoring teams. Nearly every intertidal
invertebrate encountered during eight years of monitoring
at 28 different sites is represented.
Photographic images
& graphic design of Intertidal Invertebrates
of the Salish Sea and the Pacific Northwest Coast are by Mary Jo
Adams & Jan
Holmes.
